beached rescue

baby salmon
soft, silver flesh
heaving mouth
yawning
yearning for water
on the sand

I lift the soft
silver bullet
pulsing, aching
water's air
a lap away

slipped from death
the mouth opens
its salutation
a resuscitating
swallow

  2. I second Brian.

And your use of alliteration (a lot of s's sounds) and wordplay is impressive.

So glad you liked this one. I wrote of the experience with the fish, and then later read it with Matt. It was kind of suggestive. Oh, our fishy minds play games with us!
