Ann Arbor, Michigan: The Sixth Garage

No Va

Chevy
Nova, bright red,
my thoughts...with schooled driving
coursing through my veins, I take wheels
and go

shifting
power steering,
breaking--stopping--coasting
"no parking" bending forty-five
degrees

driving
the rough terrain
dirt roads direct to hell
for my father, changing gears, his
request

pot-holes
dipping, plunging,
bucking, embarrassed car
parking, my driving lesson, sadly
ending

Bankrupture

snow piles
withdrawn from banks
deposited in streets
I dig deeper into this vault
of mine

white walls
glisten serene
a hermitaged buffer
my world, an enclave of coolness
sanctum

I like
my cold, hard cache
I hide till father's voice
warns against plowed shares, demanding
retreat

I run
the bank, I ply
snow with spades, walling up
my space and chipping away at
myself

First, a note: my laptop is in need of surgery. The doctor comes tomorrow. Please bear with me as I hand type the next few entries from Garage Sale.

Cider Press

yellow
barn smells--donuts
cinnamon, apples, hay
the press release runs off at the
mouth; juicy signs of fall
but I am still
not ripe
