The New Dress

for Virginia Woolf

she wore
with smile and frown
she entertained the lance
it glanced from mirrored corner, there
looking glass breaks, and flies
drink the milky
saucer

  1. I won't speak to how good this is, I think that goes without saying. I will remark on how beautifully crafted this is with its rhyme ("lance", "glanced") and brilliant "there" at the end of the 4th, the longest line sharp as an arrowhead: "THERE".
