I wondered if "Douglas" was going to throw some people, Kay. I think you may want to add "Fir" just so your reader isn't stopped mid-poem. I like the ring collector metaphor very much.
But I want to reconsider my comment after re-reading the poem. I think it will throw some readers but it does lose something of its humor and "personality" when spelled-out. It's going to throw readers not familiar with North American trees. Can you live with that?
Good commentary today! LOL. I didn't worry too much about it, because even in Jersey one of Rutgers' colleges was Douglas. Hmmm. I think I have a solution... Read it again. :o)
