Gotta Light?

lately
I'm smoking dark
compelled to dip my dread
in depths, dredging hidden morsels
of my soul, sifting each
piece before it's
too late

  1. The title is effectively utilized.

I like the smoking imagery used in the poem.

  2. Thank you, Chen-ou. I've never breathed more than second-hand smoke, but the imagery fit my mood perfectly! Always, Kay

  3. Well, I smoked for 15 years and you didn't miss a thing, believe me.

"[C]ompelled to dip my dread"...You are so good at introducing these little surprises in reading, Kay.

Friend to friend: some darknesses are best left to the dregs -- forever. Remember Oedipus!

  4. Brian, well said. Interestingly enough, I'm reading the third book in Ursula Le Guin's Earthsea Triology, and she has many thought provoking passages about light and darkness. Maybe I need to alter my poem--sift for the good pieces of my soul is what I intended. Something for me to fix. :o) ~Kay
